When the body is overloaded with toxins, the natural metabolism and excretion process can slow down. This makes it challenging for the body to thoroughly cleanse tissues and organ, which leaves the body out of its natural balance, called homeostasis. A detox can be used to help the body return to homeostasis by assisting in the cleansing process. In many ways, doing so reduces the risk of developing diseases by removing the toxins that cause disease before the body becomes symptomatic. Detoxing also gives the body an opportunity to rest, and reset. With this in mind, a detox can be thought of as a maintenance service for our body, similarly to a tune-up for our car. Because there are many common foods that contribute to congesting the system with toxins, such as dairy, meat, processed and fatty food, a regular detox can be beneficial to help maintain balance in the body.
